Understanding Data and the Candidate Experience

David Soraghan, Client Relationship Director, EMEA, Glassdoor

  • Join us at looking into data, and understanding what it is telling us about the candidate experience at your company.
  • The theme of our discussion is data and how that fits in to understanding the candidate experience. Looking specifically at the candidate experience at your company!

Having moved to London in 2005 to take up a position with Barclays Capital, David Soraghan embarked upon an eight-year career in the Financial Derivatives Market. In 2012, he launched his own financial services recruitment business called Avalon Recruitment, specialising in the Banking & Derivatives sector. He has a real passion for helping candidates find companies they love, hence when he heard Glassdoor were expanding to the UK, he wanted to be part of the adventure. As a Client Relationship Director, David’s focus now is helping companies showcase their employer brand and assist job seekers in finding the companies they love.

The gig economy wars: The employer strikes back

Barry FlackFounder, B F Consultancy

  • The gig economy has been with us since the Financial crisis of 2008 but has evolved and its meaning is becoming blurred and diffuse.
  • Whilst originally intended to help people make money in their idle time, the potential to solve some of the age old workplace / society issues of talent supply and demand has begun to pique the interests of the captains of industry.
  • Barry aims to talk about the here and now - the main aspects of this evolving ecosystem that charts issues such as employment, talent marketplaces and belonging to stress the importance of our organisations taking a proactive stand on an area that will define the future of work.

I am a seasoned Global HR Executive, leader and strategist. But move beyond that and I’m much more – I've worn many hats in my HR career – board level HRD, Talent, ER/IR, Recruitment, OD. Obsessed by helping businesses adapt to the changing world of work, I've added writer, speaker, advisor, faculty lecturer, trainer, freelancer and business owner to my toolkit. I solve complex people-related business problems. I've helped build successful people strategies for a hyper-growth start-up, launched a Retail brand in the USA and offshored FS processes to India to name a few. I love the opportunity HR Tech gives us to be better at what we do. I also understand how that investment needs carefully aligned to complex organisations to be sustainable and I help HR vendors translate this in order for them to be successful.

What American Football and Your Hiring Process Has In Common - Lessons from Talent Analytics

Roger Philby, Founder, The Chemistry Group

  • Roger takes an irreverent, data-led look at hiring practices and assumptions on talent that are profoundly not true.
  • He goes on to offer practical advice, using evidence from American Football, Football (English), the NHS and some of the worlds leading corporate brands, on how you can flood your organisation not with the "best" people but the "right" people for you.

Roger Philby has spent the past twenty five years dedicated to creating brilliant careers, to create brilliant organisations.
Today, valuable talent is being wasted due to poor decisions, based on uninformed, inconsistent and biased information. As a result, talent is not being accurately identified and not being connected to the right opportunity; limiting the potential of people and holding back organisations. Roger is obsessed with putting this right. Roger has created innovative and award-winning approaches to how some of the world’s largest companies recruit and develop their workforces, including Accenture, Experian, the NHS, SAP and House of Fraser. He was also part of “the biggest turnaround in UK business history”, running recruitment for Energis Communications.

Customers are Candidates: Is your Company at Risk?

            Gerry Crispin, Co-Founder: CareerXroads.com, TalentBoard.org, ATAPglobal.org

            • The data tells us that more than ½ of your applicants believe they have a positive connection with you before they apply.
            • What happens next is no longer open to opinion and, for many, a long-term downward cycle.
            • Five basic factors account for how candidates will rate your treatment of them. Handle these fundamentals and the rest is ‘long-tail’.

Gerry is a lifelong student of Staffing. He has promoted the notion his entire career that every stakeholder in the hiring process including candidates must have their basic needs addressed for recruiters to be truly proud of who they are as professionals. The CareerXroads Colloquium is a 20 year old 100 employer member community of TA Leaders devoted to helping one another. Talentboard, was created in 2010 to better define the Candidate Experience. The Association for Talent Acquisition Professionals was launched in January 2017 to create a platform for recruiters who view their work as a true Profession. Gerry co-authored eight books on the evolution of staffing and has written 100s of articles and whitepapers on similar topics. His career in Human Resources spans more than 40 years and includes HR leadership positions at Johnson and Johnson; Associate Partner in a boutique Executive Search firm; Career Services Director at the University where he graduated with his BE and advanced degrees in Engineering and IO/Psychology.
